Porcelain Veneers: Your Questions Answered

Thinking about veneers but not sure if they’re right for you? We get it – it’s a big decision, and there’s a lot of information (and misinformation) out there. Let’s break down what veneers actually are, what the process involves, and help you figure out if they might be a good fit for your smile goals.
Teeth Whitening

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Think of veneers as ultra-thin shells (about as thick as a contact lens) that are custom-made to fit over the front surface of your teeth. They’re crafted from high-quality porcelain that mimics the natural translucency of tooth enamel, so they look incredibly natural.

Veneers can address several cosmetic concerns at once:

  • Discolored teeth that don’t respond well to whitening
  • Chipped or worn teeth
  • Slightly crooked teeth (minor alignment issues)
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Teeth that are too small or oddly shaped

Are You a Good Candidate for Veneers?

Veneers work well for people who:

Have healthy teeth and gums
Want to address multiple cosmetic issues at once
Are committed to good oral hygiene
Don’t have severe teeth grinding habits

Veneers might not be right if you:

Have significant decay or gum disease (we’d address these first)
Grind your teeth severely (we’d need to discuss protection options)
Have very little natural tooth structure left
Are looking for a temporary solution

The Veneer Process: What to Expect

This isn’t a same-day procedure – veneers typically require 2-3 appointments over a few weeks. Here’s what happens:

Consultation & Planning (Visit 1)

We’ll discuss your goals, examine your teeth, and may take impressions or photos. This is when we determine if veneers are your best option and plan your new smile.

Preparation (Visit 2)

We’ll remove a small amount of enamel (less than a millimeter) from the front of your teeth to make room for the veneers. You’ll have temporary veneers while your permanent ones are being crafted.

Placement (Visit 3)

We’ll carefully bond your new veneers and make any final adjustments to ensure they look natural and feel comfortable.

Investment and Insurance

Veneers typically range from $1,000-$2,500 per tooth. Since they’re considered cosmetic, insurance usually doesn’t cover them, but we offer financing options to make treatment more manageable.

Payment options include:

  • CareCredit financing (often with 0% interest periods)
  • In-house payment plans
  • Care to discuss a package price if you’re doing multiple teeth
